Eligibility:
  The Thirteenth Annual Lyra Music Youth Competition 2024, All Virtual Event, is open to young classical musicians who are residents of the United States.

Junior Level: Applicants must be ages 11-14 as of January 31, 2024. (Younger students may compete in the junior level)
Senior Level: Applicants must be ages 15-18 as of January 31, 2024. (Younger students may compete in the senior level if they are a prior first prize winner in the junior level)
Instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello or Piano

Applicants must not be under professional management.  
Previous First Prize winners of the Lyra Competition are not eligible to compete in consecutive years at the same level of competition.

Dates:
Application due:  January 28, 2024 by 11:59pm EST. Completed application, fee, and video recording submissions must all be received by 11:59pm EST on January 28, 2024. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Prizes:
All entrants will receive written comments and constructive feedback from the jurors of the Thirteenth Annual Lyra Music Youth Competition 2024 Jury.

Winners’ video submissions may be highlighted on the Lyra Music Website, YouTube Channel and other social media (at the discretion of the Lyra Music marketing team).

Senior Level:
1st place
: $500 cash prize
2nd place: $300 cash prize
3rd place: $150 cash prize

Junior Level:
1st place: 
$300 cash prize
2nd place: $200 cash prize
3rd place:  $100 cash prize

OR Scholarship Prize Option (Both Divisions):
1st Place:
$1000
2nd Place: $600
3rd Place: $300

*Winners will be selected from the overall pool of instrumentalists. 
 
Repertoire:
•Two contrasting solo pieces. 
•Single movements from sonatas and concertos (string players only) are acceptable. Pianists may not submit concertos.
•All pieces must be performed from memory except 21st century works.
•The combined time of both pieces must be a minimum of 4 minutes for junior level, and a minimum of 6 minutes for senior level. 

Application Deadline:  
January 28, 2024, 11:59pm EST. All materials must be received by the application deadline to be considered.

Application Package: Completed online application, two working video recording submissions, and application fee. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. 

Application Fee: $90.00 USD (non-refundable). Instrumentalists competing on two instruments must submit two separate application forms and fees. 

Video Recording Submission: 
•Please clearly indicate the performer's full name, instrument, and submitted repertoire in the video title and description.
•Please clearly indicate the name of the piece, composer, and other identifying information in the video title and description. 
•Although professional recording is not required, high quality audio and video are strongly recommended.
•Video performance must be from the last six months.
•Submissions must be completely unedited during performances.  
•Video must show the performer's entire upper body, hands, and face throughout playing time.
•Repertoire must be performed in its entirety and must be performed from memory, except 21st century works.
•Check video for playability before submitting. Unplayable videos will disqualify applicant.
•Submit two and no more than two pieces of repertoire.

Rules and Information:
•Once submitted, all application materials become the property of Lyra Music, and will not be returned.
•String Players, piano accompaniment is strongly recommended, but not required.
Please Note: Winning String Player videos are more likely to be highlighted if they have been recorded with piano accompaniment.
•Once your application is submitted, no changes may be made to repertoire selections.
•Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Judges. Judges are not required to award any or all prizes.  
•All Judges' decisions are final. 
•Application fees are non-refundable.

Compliance: 
By signing your application, you agree to submit an honest and complete application and to follow the procedures and rules for performance. 

Announcement of Winners:  
Competition winners in both divisions will be announced on this website and by email on March 13, 2024. Winners will also be notified by email directly. Winners must respond to their notification email no later than March 20, 2024 to claim their prize.

Jury:
The jury will consist of distinguished professional musicians. Preliminary jurors will consist of 3 distinguished artist educators. Final round jurors will consist of 3 internationally-recognized artists. Past jurors include: Victor Santiago Asuncion, piano; Amy Schroeder, violin; Felix Umansky, cello.

Disqualification:
Anyone found to be ineligible, engaging in acts of dishonesty, or not in compliance with any competition rules will be disqualified immediately and will forfeit any and all competition fees and materials. Competitors are forbidden to engage with jury members until after winner announcements have been made.
